THE PLAN

Now beginning with the newspaper so I do need to plan how it will look. This is what my front cover structure will look like:
and my inside page like this:

I'm thinking of having my headlines simple and bold. The main headline:
GANG STEAL STORE TROLLEYS From reading the papers day to day I've picked up on their puns and alliteration which makes a particular headline catchy. 'Steal store..' Another choice for my smaller headlines on the side I have photos of a caving event that I could say that happened as an act of charity. The title could be something like: CAVING CHARITY ACT
I'm starting on my paper and will just plough through it and make changes as I go along. So far I've started on actually placing the caving photo for the front page which goes against what I've said about moral panic and negativity in papers; however I believe caving is an unusual day to day activity so I've decided to change it to this.
So far I have titled my paper as THE SOUTHERN NEWS in Britannia Bold for a simple yet bold look. The colour I've based it on is a kind of murky green, light so that you can still see the writing over the top. Going against the conventions of The News but more like the Petersfield Post. It is blank at the moment and I will have much more little writing in to pack it out, it's just the structure I am working on so far. I like this kind of green, it targets a more older audience as well judging by the kind of font I have used. The front picture I have used is colourful and appears positive because of the people smiling in it. 2011 Okay it's after Christmas now and I've taken some more photos of random things like Waterlooville precinct or West Quay John Lewis - but not many have people in and am trying to come up with some good stories! I've decided to change my front cover story to one about a a kebab shop shutting down because they blocked sewege in the area. Then i could possibly link this story to how a similar story like another kebab shop down the road had the same issue .. a small photo can be used for the inside story. This is my front page picture now ..

I'm going to write my story out at home in a rough draft and then I'll see how it looks when i write it up onto my inside page, have to plan where things are going I don't want to over load the page. For the side parts I'm going to present local news about the 'caving charity act'. I think for another part I should briefly mention something about sport - so need a photo for that! And lastly a couple of advertisements, on the side and one on the bottom! Originally I'll stick to the Spinnaker Tower probably, and one about the Waterlooville Local Library. I prefer to take photos at places as I go along rather than planning, I've realized this just as it seems easier and harder to find things to take pictures of.

For my advertisement I've taken a photo of a famous book 'Goodnight Mister Tom' - I thought I can perhaps make a small advertisement or offer on the right side of the paper;

Maybe not an advertisement but I'm thinking more of an offer 'Collect 7 tokens from this paper for a week and you can collect this book - free from your local WHsmith'. This would target a younger age for my paper also, attracting a childrens book.

On the subject of books I have also taken some photos of my local library, possibly thinking of either promoting it or informing that it has now re-opened after refurbishment.
