IDEAS ...

Ideas ..
Starting on suggestions for my newspaper today, trying to think of titles similar to what I've read before in my local newspaper however not the same. I think something negative for my front cover title would create a more eye-catching story; hopefully gaining an interest from potential readers. The reason I think it'll be much more interesting is because of the Moral Panic we gather from all papers today; for example terrorism and politics.

If a person was to read a front cover about social events like the conflict with Afghanistan then the moral panic would create discussion andopinion; the affect from the word of mouth would involve more of the community.

Another example would be the amount of 'chaos' society receives from the

youth, this often involves drugs, violence and anti-social behaviour in general. From everyday observation from friends and family, this creates more discussion becausethe youth are the most important for the next generation; so if unpleasant events occur then it has a larger affect on society in the future. Balancing these ideas around I've decided to base my main story on the youth.

This would have to be a local event and occur in a place the community can relate to - this can include the type of area involved with places 'kids hang out'; therefore rebel and force an impression on their community. A local citizen lives in in Wecock, (hypothetical situation) and they pop into their nearby store to buy a paper. if the local one had

something involved with where they live then their human interest would attract their attention and would more likely purchase this paper.

These can involve many stories and headlines i have thought of - the following list are main headline ideas:

  • Drug use in kids holiday park

  • 12 year old takes knife to school

  • Arson in school playground

  • Gang steal trolleys off local store

  • Teen killed in drowning

I also have to consider the other aspects like advertising around the frame of a paper and smaller stories inside. These would involve taking a number of photos of local situations.

These are the following ideas I have come up with:

  • Big hit on school production

  • Industrial park expanding

  • Celebration over young Bonus'

  • 'Taxiport' (new taxi service company)

  • Gardening tips/cooking recipes inside ..

  • New 'Red Lounge' opening!

  • Discussions on Harbour closing or new ideas for for Harbour

  • Refurbished library now opened!

  • 2 for 1 on meal

  • £10 off Topshop*

  • Apartments for rent advertisement

  • New seafood market coming to you!

During the next week I will take pictures of these aspects to put onto the border of my newspaper.

Last week I have taken a few photos, however not enough to cover all small stories but I'm working on ideas to where to take them. I have taken a visit to Gunwharf in Portsmouth and thought of an idea to 'promote an offer' of the Spinnaker Tower - I took quite a lot of
photos so I have a lot of choice; this is an example of what I am hoping to present onto my newspaper.

So far I've been to commercial road and spotted my friend working at his fish market and have discovered that it is very popular - so I thought of a story to say how they business is branching outsuccessfully - a positive story. Here is another picture of many I've taken.
